Through TheFLY's Eyes: Dell Inc. and Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.

Dell and AMD: Thick as Thieves

This morning, British technology website The Inquirer wrote an
article that said, citing multiple sources in Taiwan, that Dell (DELL) would be selling more Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) based systems, although they were not clear which lines would be included.

After the
recent news that Dell would use AMD Opteron processors in its four way servers, the ramping up of this long-rumored joint-venture may no longer have the shock value it once did, but it does continue to prove AMD is a legitimate rival to Intel (INTC), as customer demand for AMD chips at Dell must have been pretty strong for the company to turn its back on its long-time ally, Intel.

In short, this is a strong positive for AMD, as it will further increase the company's market share by stealing directly from Intel's backyard, a positive for Dell, who has finally come around to realize they must provide what the fickle, ever-changing consumer market wants, and another negative for Intel, which is sliding down a slippery slope, with AMD waiting to take the leading position.

Now, if only Dell would realize how its consumers feel about the "crap-ware" that comes pre-loaded on all of its systems.
